Description:Position: Learning Center & Residential
CounselorSummary: To provide educational services and immediate
crisis interventions for shelter clients and actively participate
in the program team.The shelter operates 24/7, 365 days a year, and
provides short term residence and case management to youth between
the ages of 13-17. Salary Range: 37K-40K Direct ServiceEssential
Functions: - Assist staff in making sure youth are prepared for the
Learning Center at 8:30am. - Read Communication Log and new
resident profiles to be informed on youth and behaviors. - Assist
in preparing and implementing educational modules and supervise
students. - Assist with educational group services when assigned
and appropriate. - Assist with communication with schools regarding
school work and academic progress. - Continuously provide support
for all youth by engaging individuals and groups. - Provide student
assessments and grading reporting to appropriate monitors. -
Conduct educational assessments. - Assist in developing and
implementing Individual Educational Plans (IEP's) with Learning
Center students. - Work in partnership with youth in meeting their
stated educational goals. - Document progress of students in daily
log. - Document client interaction in the Shelter Communication Log
in a consistent and ethical manner. - Attend Quarterly Staff
Meetings and regular supervision. - Provide liaison and referral
services with appropriate educational services. - Participate with
supervisor and appropriate specialists or consultants on specific
case related problems. - Assist with or teach job readiness
trainings as needed. - Provide crisis intervention, referral, and
intake services through the crisis phone line, crisis walk-in
service, and Safe Place program. - Provide intake and assessment
services to youth and families referred to the shelter program. -
Facilitate the referral process for potential clients to other
Oasis programs and/or external resources. - Attend regularly
scheduled and called staff meetings. - Provide liaison, advocacy
and referral services with appropriate mental health centers,
courts, physicians, school systems, Department of Children's
Services and others as needed. - Related tasks as
assigned.Non-Essential Functions: - Schedule and supervise field
trips for Learning Center students, as assigned. - Supervise
classes and activities when teacher is on hiatus or holiday. -
Supervise activities of house residents. - Provide casework
services in the absence of counseling staff. - Document client
interaction in a consistent and ethical manner. - Intervene in
crisis situations with residents when necessary. - Transport
clients as needed. - Coordinate and supervise activities when
appropriate or assigned.AdministrationEssential Functions: -
Maintain consistent and timely records, including relevant reports
to meet funding and licensing requirements. - Participate in the
orientation of new staff, volunteers, and interns, as assigned. -
Participate in staff and program development, as requested. -
Maintain consistent and timely records, including relevant reports
to meet funding and licensing requirements. - Enter data on all
crisis calls, crisis walk-ins and program referrals into databases
as needed for funding sources. - Maintain Referral and Crisis
Walk-In (CWI) data, including all applicable logs, computer
databases and referral sheets. - Assist in the preparation for
monitoring visits by funding and licensing sources.Non-Essential
Functions: - Assist in preparation and maintenance of resident
files
Requirements: Minimal Requirements / Performance Standards: -
Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form. -
Ability to utilize office equipment (telephone, computer software,
fax, copy machines, etc.) - Knowledge and ability to apply positive
youth development. - Knowledge and ability to apply trauma informed
care approach. - Knowledge and ability to access community
resources. - Knowledge and ability to apply crisis intervention
theory, learning theory and group work theory. - Ability to provide
supports to students from a trauma informed perspective. - Ability
to visually and audibly supervise clients. - Ability to maneuver
within the classroom and in the community. - Knowledge of GED
requirements and all high school subjects. - Valid State of
Tennessee Driver's License and good driving record. - Bachelor's
